Progress Report #73: July 2023


Hi everyone,

Welcome to the July coverage of VoidBound's progress till date! We actually had quite a few things qued up to share with you before this post but, for one reason or the other, they all kept getting pushed back. Rest assured, we will bring all of them your way soon.

For now though, the report!

If you thought that Ishan having his dirty ways with Caly was to be the end of her woes- think again! Henosian's finest want a piece of her too! Sketches have been made for a new Bad End involving Caly and the Defense Force though it still remains to be seen what kind of dastardly plans Gen has for Caly!

Moreover, detailed planning for new maps for the Introduction are underway. We're examining the size to make sure we have the proper scale as well as making sure the layout works well for the gameplay.

And of-course no new zones will be complete without new denizens occupying it! Alien races unique to the the Introduction phase are being concepted and tested out with various color patterns.

Story wise, work continues looking over Clash Station's quest line and then figuring out how the story flows from Point A to Point B.

Now that we have that, we are working to figure out the look of the station's maps and make sure that it's not just a bunch of things stitched together. There will be a small sequence where Caly goes to a Scrapyard and instead of just having a basic 'go here, do that' we have expanded it with a puzzle and additional content that players can run into and play through if they want.

In other news, efforts to test/fix and add new quality of life changes to the Combat System are underway once more. With the core idea behind it ever evolving based on player feedback, we anticipate new changes to be a recurring exercise with each patch- and we would have it no other way. Not until we get it right!

Finally, coding for new events that form the start of the Introduction has begun to take shape as well. Details are still a bit sparse, but we're making sure that they tasks that are asked off the players are during the escape actually mesh seamlessly with the new maps!
